Complete guide to container foundations: types, costs, and which foundation is best for storage, office or residential containers.
Order with delivery & setup adviceA stable, level foundation prevents the container from sinking, tilting or moisture entering from below. It ensures the doors open and close correctly, extends the container's service life and is a prerequisite for planning permission in permanent installations.

Mark out the area
Mark the four corner points of the container. Leave at least 50 cm clearance on all sides.
Check the ground
Test the load-bearing capacity of the surface. Soft or waterlogged ground must be stabilised first.
Prepare support points
Place concrete pads, paving slabs or compacted gravel at the four corners (or six points for 40 ft containers).
Level all points
Use a spirit level to ensure all support points are at exactly the same height. Maximum tolerance: ±5 mm.
Place the container
The container is set down by crane or tilt-bed vehicle. After placement, check levelness again.
In Germany, the frost line is typically between 80 and 120 cm below ground level. For permanent foundations, footings must extend below this depth to prevent frost heave. For temporary or seasonal storage containers, a surface foundation is usually sufficient.
